An implantable medical device incorporatesa central control unit (14) for controlling the internal and external functions of the device,a memory unit comprising program memory, main and/or data memory (20, 21, 22) for the central control unit (14), having at least one non-volatile read-write memory unit that is based on an optical storage medium and holds the stored information energy-free, andan off-the-line power supply (18) for the implantable device.
