Abstract

An apparatus and method for the separation of molecules having a molecular mass from about 200 to 5000 Da, particularly micromolecules having a molecular mass of less than 5000 Dalton. The apparatus contains an anode,a cathode disposed between the anode and the separation membrane that defines a first interstitial volume therebetween.A first restriction membrane disposed between the anode and the separation membrane defines a second interstitial volume therebetween.Upon application of the voltage potential, a selected separation product is removed from the sample constituent through the separation membrane, and provided to the other of the first and second interstitial volumes.
