Abstract

This invention relates to new 19-nor-17&agr;-pregna-1,3,5(10)-trien-17&bgr;-ols with a 21,16&agr;-lactone ring of formula II, process for their production and pharmaceutical preparations that contain these compounds as well as 17&agr;-cyanomethylated estra-1,3,5(10)-trienes, which produce intermediate products on the way to the 19-nor-17&agr;-pregna-1,3,5(10)-trien-17&bgr;-ols.The 19-nor-17&agr;-pregna-1,3,5(10)-trien-17&bgr;-ols produce novel selective estrogens, which contrast to standard estrogens, such as estradiol, show a preference for one of the two known estrogen receptors, estrogen receptor alpha.
