Abstract
The invention relates to a fuel composition which comprises a diesel fuel, a C1-C4 alkyl ester of an &agr;-hydroxymonocarboxylic acid and, if appropriate, a C1-C4 alcohol. The diesel fuel is either obtained from petroleum or from a petroleum fraction, such as middle distillate, or is obtained by conversion of material of biological origin (so-called biodiesel). The fuel composition preferably contains from 3 to 6% by weight of C1-C4 alkyl ester, calculated on the basis of the total weight of the composition.
