Abstract
Improved multilayer magnetic superlattice structures, such as (Co/Pt)n and (Co/Pd)n, having predetermined, very high perpendicular magnetic coercivities are formed by sputter deposition of predetermined thickness, ultra-thin seed layers on the substrate prior to formation thereon of the superlattice structure by sputtering at at least a predetermined minimum sputtering gas pressure. The multilayer magnetic superlattice structures are advantageously utilized in the formation of thermally stable, perpendicular magnetic recording (MR) media having very high areal recording densities.
