Abstract
An electronically commutated motor contains a rotor position determination, which detects a surface at which the rotor and stator poles (10 through 15; 17 through 20) diametrically oppose one another. The total surface is taken into consideration in the position determination. The pole angles (&bgr;S, &bgr;R) of the stator and rotor poles (10 through 15; 17 through 20) are each set to values at which a rotor rotation results in a surface change.
