Abstract

The invention relates to a method for fabricating an optical plug connector, according to which the optical waveguide is immersed with the exposed optical fiber into a powdery adhesive and is withdrawn from the same, whereby particles of the powdery adhesive remain adhered to the surface of the fiber. The fiber with the adhered particles is then inserted into the bore of the ferrule of the plug connector and is fixed therein. The ferrule is heated to a temperature greater than or equal to the melting temperature of the adhesive and is maintained at this temperature. A particular suitability for use in the field is achieved by virtue of the fact that: the bonding of the fiber to the ferrule is carried out in a battery-operated hand-held device (130); the plug with the ferrule is inserted into and held on a receptacle (160) that is placed on the hand-held device (130); inside the receptacle (160), the ferrule is surrounded by a battery-operated electric heating element; the optical waveguide with the fiber is then inserted into the plug and is fixed inside the same by actuating means (129, 136, 137, 141, 143, 151) arranged inside the hand-held device (130), and; finally, the adherenc…
