Abstract
A two-stroke internal combustion engine comprises a first cylinder and a second cylinder arranged on a common axis. A first piston pair comprises a first piston and a second piston located in the first cylinder and defining a first combustion chamber. The first piston and the second piston of the first piston pair move in opposite directions within the first cylinder. A second piston pair comprises a first piston and a second piston located in the second cylinder and defining a second combustion chamber. The first piston and the second piston of the second piston pair move in opposite directions within the second cylinder. The first piston of the first piston pair is connected to the second piston of the second piston pair by a first connecting rod. The second piston of the first piston pair is connected to the first piston of the second piston pair by a second connecting rod. A fuel supply is connected to at least one of the first cylinder or the second cylinder. At least one of the first cylinder or the second cylinder includes a first end and a second end. A plurality of inlet openings define an inlet plane proximate the first end. A plurality of exhaust openings are located pro…
