Abstract
An apparatus for monitoring a path or section trace identifier. The apparatus receives the trace identifier and subjects it to a transform algorithm to produce a transformed trace identifier. The apparatus then compares the transformed trace identifier with a correspondingly transformed expected trace identifier and determines if there is a match or a mismatch. The CRC-32 (32-bit cyclic redundancy check) checksum algorithm may be used. The algorithm produces transformed trace identifiers that are significantly smaller than the non-transformed trace identifiers.
