In a method for preparing 1-hydroxy-1,1-diphosphonic acid compounds of the general formula I and/or of their pharmacologically compatible saltsa compound of the formula IIis reacted with a compound P(OSiR53)3-pR6p and the reaction product is hydrolyzed.
