Abstract

The LED has phosphor particles (2) with a mean phosphor particle size d50 selected from the range of from 0.1 μm, inclusive, to 1.5 μm, inclusive, in particular the phosphor particles having primary particles (4) with a mean particle size (5) selected from the range of from 0.1 μm, inclusive, to 1.0 μm, inclusive. The primary particles, which comprise, for example, an yttrium aluminum garnet (Y3Al5O12) doped with cerium, are agglomerated to form the phosphor particles.
