Abstract

A complex amplitude spatial optical modulation element for low 0th-order diffraction light has a plurality of three-dimensional cells two-dimensionally on an XY plane. Each cell is light transmitting and defines a specific amplitude and phase. An upper surface of each cell has a first region in which a groove is formed and a second region at both sides of the first region with light blocking layers on upper surfaces. The groove has a bottom surface with an area set in accordance with the specific amplitude and a depth set in accordance with the specific phase of the corresponding cell.
