Abstract

Highly fluorescent metallo-supramolecules based on terpyridine-based monomers and transition metals have been obtained. These robust supramolecules provide high quantum yields with emissions from violet to blue, green or yellow color. They have emerged as promising emitters for polymeric light-emitting diodes (PLEDs) due to desirable properties such as high luminance, high purity, low cost, and good thermal stabilities. The supramolecule has molecular structure represented by the formulawherein M represents Group IB, IIB VIIA, VIIIA or lanthanide metals; R is independently in each occurrence and is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, halogen, alkyl, substituted alkyl, aryl, substituted aryl, or recognized donor and acceptor groups; X is independently in each occurrence and is nitrogen or carbon atom; R is selected from alkoxy, aryloxy, heteroaryloxy, alkyl, aryl, heteroaryl, alkyl ketone, aryl ketone, heteroaryl ketone, alkylester, arylester, heteroarylester, alkylamide, arylamide, heteroarylamide, alkylthio, arylthio, fluoroalkyl, fluoroaryl, amine, imide, carboxylate, sulfonyl, alkyleneoxy, polyalkyleneoxy, or combination thereof; n is an integer of 1 to 100,000; Z is…
