Abstract

The apparatus for authenticating a person on the basis of at least one biometric parameter, particularly on the basis of a fingerprint, comprises a biometric detector (20) for detecting a biometric parameter, a skin detector (24) for identifying, in a contactless manner, living human skin within a scanning area. The skin detector (24) is provided with at least one group encompassing at least one radiation unit (26,28) and at least one reception unit (30). The at least one radiation unit (26,28) emits radiation in the direction of the scanning area at least at two different wavelengths ranging from 400 nm to 1500 nm, at least one of the wavelengths (26,28) ranging from 900 nm to 1500 nm, while the at least one reception unit (30) receives radiation reflected from the scanning area. The apparatus further comprises a signal evaluation unit (22) that is connected to the biometric detector (20) and the skin detector (24) and is used for evaluating the intensity of the reflected radiations of the radiation unit (26,28) which are received by the reception unit (30). Based on the intensities of the reflected radiations of the radiation unit (26,28) which are received by the reception unit …
