Abstract
A developing apparatus includes a grooved developer carrying member configured to carry a developer to a developing region opposing an image bearing member, and a regulating member configured to regulate an amount of the carried developer. The regulating member includes a guide portion configured to guide the developer to a regulating position in which the regulating member is closest to the developer carrying member, with the guide portion being located on an upstream side with respect to the regulating position in a rotation direction of the developer carrying member and being shaped so that a gap between the guide portion and a tangent of the developer carrying member at the regulating position becomes narrower toward a downstream side in the rotation direction. A downstream slope surface is provided on the downstream side in the rotation direction within a region of each of a plurality of grooves, the downstream slope surface being sloped with respect to a normal direction of the developer carrying member.
