Abstract

Systems and methods provide for optimizing transactions on digital documents between remote client devices. A digital document having one or more electronically annotatable objects resides on a host client device. A request is received to enable the digital document for cross-device transactions. Based on the request, a piece of metadata associated with the digital document is sent to a remote server device configured to host, among other things, the metadata associated with the digital document residing on the host client device. The metadata includes information about the digital document, some corresponding to electronically annotatable objects provided therein. A remote client device accessing the remote server device can view, among other things, the metadata associated with the digital document residing on the host client device. The remote client device obtains, in accordance with the metadata, one or more electronic annotations for transmission to the remote server device.
