Abstract
A device includes a delay element that can produce from the demodulated output of a radio receiver, a delayed signal that is delayed by an adjustable amount. A processor is coupled to the delay element and to a correlation element. The correlation element can correlate an acoustic signal from a transducer with information from the delayed signal from the delay element. The processor can adjust the delay and detect from the correlation element one or more peak correlations. The delays dictated by the processor, that produce one or more peak correlations, are used to deduce a use of a portable electronic device proximal to an operator's station, and to operate a switching element for altering services at the portable electronic device.
