Abstract
Photographic silver halide emulsions are protected against latent image fading by aromatic latent image stabilizing compounds having the structure: ##STR1## wherein: R.sup.1 is hydrogen, alkyl, or aryl; PA1 R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are each individually hydrogen, alkyl, alkoxy, carboxy, alkoxycarbonyl, or aminocarbonyl; PA1 X is a middle chalcogen.[.;.]. .Iadd.chosen from the class consisting of sulfur and selenium; .Iaddend. PA1 Z represents the atoms completing an aromatic nucleus; PA1 n is an integer of 1 or 2; and PA1 M.sup..sym.n is a cation of valence n chosen from the group consisting of an onium ion, an ion from Group IA or IIA, and a metal ion from Group IIB, VIIB, IVA, or VA.
