Abstract
This invention provides a composite hollow fiber comprising a porous hollow fiber substrate and a coating layer formed on at least one of the outer surface and the inner surface of said substrate. The coating layer comprises a polymer having at least one of the structural units represented by the formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 represents a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group; R.sup.2, R.sup.3 and R.sup.4, which may be identical or different, represent a hydrogen atom, a monovalent hydrocarbon group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms or a monovalent silicon-containing organic group. This composite hollow fiber is excellent in gas permeability and gas separation performance and has high heat resistance, humidity resistance and mechanical strength.
