Abstract

A rolling bearing clutch including an inner ring, an outer ring and a plurality of rollers interposed between the track surfaces formed on the inner and outer rings, said rollers are inclined with a predetermined twist angle (.beta.) relative to the center axis of the rings, each of the track surfaces of the inner and outer rings exhibits a hyperboloid contour, and when rings are relatively rotated in one direction, the rolling bearing clutch is brought into the locked condition and the clutch is freely rotatable in a reverse direction, wherein the rolling contact angle of at least one of contact portions of each of the rollers with the track surfaces as seen in the axial direction of the rollers is set to be larger than the frictional angle corresponding to the static frictional coefficient at the contact portion, whereby when the rings are rotated in the locking direction, the rollers can slide at the contact portions with the track surfaces, thrusting means is provided for allowing the track surfaces of the inner ring and the outer ring to come near each other, the inner and outer rings are locked by thrusting outer ring by the thrusting means while the inner and outer rings are…
