Abstract
Amide derivatives of 1,4 di-substituted piperidine compounds of the formula ##STR1## or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt, ester or solvate thereof, wherein PA1 Q and Q.sup.1 are each --CH.dbd., or one of Q and Q.sup.1 is --CH.dbd. and the other is --N.dbd.; ##STR2## PA1 X is --CH.sub.2 -- or PA1 Y and Z are --C(R.sup.5).dbd., or one of Y and Z is --C(R.sup.5).dbd. and the other is --N.dbd.; PA1 R.sup.1 is 1 to 3 substituents selected from H, halogen and alkoxy; PA1 R.sup.2 and R.sup.5 are 1 to 3 substituents selected from H, halogen, alkyl and alkoxy; and PA1 R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 are H or (C.sub.1 -C.sub.6)alkyl are muscarinic antagonists useful for treating cognitive disorders such as Alzheimer's disease. Pharmaceutical compositions and methods of preparation are also disclosed.
